SUPPORTERS of Scottish Independence marched through the centre of Dunfermline on Saturday.

The Forward as One Association march began at Dunfermline Town train station at 10.30am, then moved at noon to the High Street and down into Pittencrieff Park with an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 people in attendance.

Martin Keatings, chairman of the association, said: “The event went brilliantly with no problems. I was at the front of the march and as we were going down the High Street, the shops just emptied.

“The cars began the procession and the foot patrol followed and there was a great atmosphere all round.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback and we certainly wish to bring it back next year.”

Mr Keatings said that Dunfermline was recognised not only as the final resting place of Robert the Bruce, but also as the last city in which Scottish Sovereignty was truly held in Scotland before the Union of Crowns.

Ahead of the event, he had said: "People say that there is no need for such events but in reality they are a day for the public to see the positive message of the Yes campaign while allowing supporters to come together from across Scotland in common cause and celebrate the movement, exchanging stories, knowledge and ideas freely but more importantly keeping connected with the general public."

After the march, a range of guest organisations, parties and general speakers took to the stage at the Glen and they were joined by a host of musicians and entertainers.
