AFTER the long queues at the Queensferry Crossing, there's more traffic misery ahead with roadworks on the M90 starting tonight.

The 1.2km southbound section of the motorway between Kelty and Halbeath will be resurfaced over the weekend.

The work will begin at 7.30pm tonight, continue over Saturday and Sunday using 24-hour working, and is scheduled to be complete by 6.30am on Monday.

BEAR Scotland said this stretch of the M90 is used by around 15,000 vehicles every day and surface maintenance works are now required.

For the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a contraflow system will be in place and the M90 junction 4 southbound off and on slip roads will be closed throughout the weekend.

Signed diversions will be in place.

The junction 4 southbound on-slip diversion will be via the northbound M90 junction 5 (Gairneybridge) to then head southbound on the M90.

Traffic wishing to use the junction 4 southbound off-slip will be diverted south to junction 3 (Halbeath) then onto the northbound M90.

Andy Thompson, of BEAR Scotland, said: “This next section of improvements for the M90 will create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption as much as possible during the improvements, and have planned the works to take place over one weekend to limit the overall impact of the scheme.

“We encourage road users to follow any signs and traffic management that is in place for their safety as well as our teams, and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
