A SOLDIER from Dunfermline has been fined after being convicted of domestic abuse for the third time.

David Notman, 26, of Woodmill Crescent, previously admitted that on April 2, 2016, at an address in Oakley, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and punching a door.

Depute fiscal Carrie Stevens told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that Notman was drinking with his ex-girlfriend when he started to become agitated.

An argument began and he shouted and swore at her and then punched a hole in the bedroom door, which caused him to cut his hand.

The incident was not reported to the police until May of this year and when he was charged and cautioned, he replied: "It's all lies."

Referring to Notman and the complainer's relationship, defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: "It was clearly a poor relationship.

"They have not been together since December and Mr Notman does not wish to have any contact with her at all.

"It was not reported to the police until May for reasons unknown.

"He is a private serving in the army and there are hopes that he will be deployed to Iraq in January."

Sheriff Charles Macnair said: "This is your third conviction for a domestic offence.

"It is very concerning because you also have other convictions for disorder.

"If you continue in the way you are at the moment, you will find yourself in custody.

"But I have taken into account the circumstances and how long it has taken to report."

Notman received a £450 fine.
