A DUNFERMLINE firm is aiming to give back to the community and to charity at the same time.

MR Fencing Fife were carrying out work for the family of inspirational seven-year-old Niamh Currie when they decided to launch the fundraiser.

Dunfermline youngster Niamh was born with spina bifida, a condition where the spine and spinal cord don’t develop properly.

She first featured in the Press in 2014, when Canmore Street bike shop Planet Velo made her Christmas wish come true after helping the tot find a bespoke tricycle.

Ric Owen, director of MR Fencing Fife, was inspired by the youngster and decided to begin raising money for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland.

He said: “We often run competitions and were thinking how can more people benefit and not just the prize winner? Our solution is to give away a fantastic prize; in order to qualify for the prize draw all you have to do is donate to this worthy charity.

“Little Niamh was absolutely beaming. She’s so young and has such a horrible condition but she just makes the most of it and is always smiling.

“Her attitude was so positive. I spoke to her mum, Gillian, and she told me about the charity and all the great work they carry out. If we could raise even just £500 or £600, that would be fantastic.”

The competition will run throughout the month of October. For each £5 you donate, you get one entry into the competition. The firm is giving away a £600 voucher for their services to the winner. The winner will be drawn at random by Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland.
