MOTORISTS using the M90 can expect disruption this weekend when £160,000 worth of roadworks begin this evening.

A section of the southbound carriageway between Kelty and Halbeath - used by around 15,000 vehicles daily - is set for essential resurfacing work.

The road improvements will begin at 7.30pm this evening and will continue throughout the weekend until is scheduled completion time of 6.30am on Monday.

Throughout the work, a contraflow system will be in place.

This will see the southbound off-slip at junction three (Halbeath) closed with a signed diversion via the southbound M90 to junction one (Admiralty), then northbound to the junction three off-slip.

BEAR Scotland say that the works are "now required to ensure the road continues to operate smoothly and safely" and Andy Thompson, their north east representative, said: "This investment from Transport Scotland is the latest into ensuring the M90 continues to function at a safe standard for years to come.

"We've scheduled the works to take place over one weekend using 24 hour working to minimise the overall impact to road users.  We do however encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance to allow some extra time to reach their destination."
