A 71-YEAR-OLD Dunfermline man who has repeatedly ignored a lifetime driving ban is back behind bars.
Robert Murphy had been given early release from a jail term imposed in April when he was again caught behind the wheel.
Murphy, of Inchkeith Drive, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on December 13 in Inchkeith Drive, he drove while disqualified. He also admitted driving without insurance.
Depute fiscal Alex Kirk said: “There’s not much I can say about the offence other than he’s done it again, driving while disqualified.”
Sheriff Derek Reekie commented: “He’s done it umpteen times.”
Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “He’s always bought cars, tinkered with them then sold them on.
“When he drives them he can get caught and he is then given a custodial sentence. He accepts he’ll receive a custodial sentence today.”
Sheriff Reekie told Murphy: “I’ve no idea what makes you behave in this way. It shows an utter disregard for the law. It’s an extraordinary catalogue of offending.”
He jailed Murphy for eight months. He received the same sentence in April but was allowed out in June on a home detention curfew.
The sheriff also ordered forfeiture of the car he was caught driving.
