MORE snow is likely across Fife this evening, drivers have been warned.

Within the last few minutes, Fife Council's roads management department stated: "After a brief respite early in the afternoon, another period of rain and snow is likely across Fife from around early evening until around midnight.

"Rain is expected below 250 metres but turning to sleet or possibly snow on routes above this height.

"Another cold night will follow with ice and frost on untreated surfaces. A further band of rain is expected from late Saturday morning turning to sleet over higher parts.

"Road surface temperatures will remain below freezing throughout. All Areas: 20gm2 pre-salt at 15:30hrs with full reload.

"Priority 1 footways to be retreated Saturday morning due to likelihood of problems with snow and ice."

The Met Office have announced yellow warnings for both snow and ice.

Snow is expected to fall into the afternoon today (Friday) with ice set to cause difficult driving conditions tomorrow morning.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Some roads and railways will be affected leading to longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

"Icy stretches are expected to form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths over much of Scotland and northern England. Further snow showers may also give a further 1-3cm in places over Scotland, mainly on high ground from the Central Belt northwards.

"Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are likely. Longer journey times and some road closures are possible with some bus and train services perhaps delayed."
