A DUNFERMLINE man breached his bail conditions within hours of them being imposed in court and was found by police hiding beneath a cot.

Michael Smith was back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Tuesday, appearing from custody.

He was back in front of Sheriff Charles MacNair who had imposed the conditions on Monday.

Smith, 26, of Bittern Court, admitted that having been granted bail at Dunfermline on January 15 subject to the conditions that he did not enter Bittern Court or contact Victoria Dobson, he did both the same day.

Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said: “He was going to collect his clothes. He was having to sleep in his car as he didn’t have petrol money to drive to the Dumfries area where he was going to be staying.”

Sheriff MacNair told Smith: “You were granted bail in the face of opposition from the Crown and within a matter of hours you had breached it.”

He called for background reports and Smith was remanded in custody until February 7.
