THE world famous Flying Scotsman is set to return to West Fife this May.

Operators have announced the iconic steam locomotive will be travelling from Edinburgh to the Fife Circle on three special Cathedrals Express trips on Sunday, May 20.

Tickets go on sale this morning (Wednesday) at 9.00am.

After leaving Edinburgh Waverley and travelling over the Forth Bridge, it will head into the Kingdom, making her way along the coast before turning back inland, via Dunfermline.

Founder Marcus Robertson said: “We are delighted to be working with Flying Scotsman north of the border once again.

"Although she was built in England, it feels very much that the loco is a Scottish icon, and last year’s trips were fantastically popular and earned Scotland publicity all over the world.

“We hope that by offering three trips over the Forth Bridge this year, rather than two, it will allow as many people as possible to experience the magic of this special ‘celebrity’ engine.”

During the trip, passengers in Pullman Style Dining and Premier Dining can have a champagne brunch, and First Class will enjoy complimentary champagne, orange juice and biscuits.

Premium Standard will be served tea and coffee.

It will then arrive back in Edinburgh at approximately 11.45am.

At around 1.45pm, she will leave the capital once again before embarking in the Fife Circle route once again, arriving back in Edinburgh for approximately 4.30pm.

Passengers in Pullman Style Dining and Premier Dining will enjoy a champagne cream tea, while First Class and Premium Standard receive the same as on the morning trip.

And in the evening, the Flying Scotsman will depart from Edinburgh Waverley at around 7.00pm and will once more head out across the Forth Bridge.

She will be back in Edinburgh for around 9.45pm.

Pullman Style Dining and Premier Dining will enjoy a two course dinner, while First Class and Premium Standard receive the same as on the morning journey.

Fares range from £79 per person in Premium Standard to £225 per person in Pullman Style Dining.
