PARENTS can expect police officers knocking on their doors after a spate of bin fires in West Fife.

Camdean Primary School was targeted by vandals on Saturday night as well as sites in both Inverkeithing and Oakley.

South West Fife Police posted on Twitter their anger at the fire at the Rosyth school on Kings Road.

They said: “Parents, some of you can expect a knock at the door in the very near future. The usual ‘there’s nothing to do’ excuse won’t be tolerated.”

Neil Finnie, senior compliance manager at Fife Council, said: “Although the fire damage on this occasion was kept to a minimum and has not disrupted the school day, vandalism not only costs the council large sums of money – which could be used for other vital local services – it also has a direct impact on young children, families and the wider community.

“We’d ask anyone with any information to get in touch with Police Scotland.”

A spokeswoman from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one fire engine attended at 9.04pm and left at 9.28pm.

Fire crews also tackled another bin blaze at the former Caldwell’s Paper Mill in Inverkeithing, which now lies derelict.

The incident happened at around 8pm on Saturday, with police taking to social media to once again vent their frustration.

They said: “Starting to feel like a stuck record here but parents, #WhereIsYourChild? Would you be proud if your child was stealing bins, setting them on fire then breathing this in? Ask questions please.”

One fire engine was also sent to Lindsay’s Wynd, Oakley, on Friday evening.

A spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of a wheelie bin fire at 9.39pm on Friday.

“Control mobilised one fire appliance to Lindsay’s Wynd, where firefighters extinguished the fire. Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”
