A WOMAN who threw a vase at her son then struggled with police appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court last Wednesday.

Nicola Muir, 45, of Keir Hardie Terrace, appeared for sentencing after previously admitting behaving in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person fear or alarm on January 7 when she acted in an aggressive manner, threw a glass vase and picture frame at her son and shouted and swore.

She also resisted, obstructed or hindered two police officers in execution of their duty when she struggled violently with police officers, kicking one of them in the body.

Depute fiscal Jennifer Graham said Muir had contacted the police to report that she had been assaulted.

"Officers attended and spoke with the accused and, at this point, she was under the influence of alcohol," he said. "The accused requested police contact her son to attend the locus. He attended and the accused became upset and angry at his attendance and she became aggressive towards police officers and witnesses.

"She went upstairs and, at that point, threw a glass vase and a photo frame towards her son while continuing to shout and swear."

Efforts were made to calm her down and while officers were trying to arrest her, she lashed out and refused to be handcuffed.

Sheriff Christopher Shead placed Muir on a community payback order with supervision for 12 months.
