ROSYTH welcomes back its gala day this Saturday with a range of family fun and entertainment planned.

The event is in its third year since returning to mark the garden city’s centenary after a 30-year break.

Now back as an annual event, the day will start with the traditional parade at 11am from the Park Road playing fields and will finish at the Public Park where the crowning of the royal gala party will take place.

Activities will include music, games, rides, inflatables, displays, wrestling and Rosyth Community Market.

Gala committee member Stephen Lynas said preparations were going very well.

“We have had over 1,100 kids who have registered for free wristbands so about 90 per cent of the local primary schools are registered to take part and there are lots of things happening,” he said.

“Hopefully, the weather stays kind for us as well.

“This is our third year back and it is growing year on year. We had 7,500 people last year so given the increased take up for bands this year, we are hoping for lots more.”

The event is set for success despite fears earlier in the year when, as reported in the Press, the introduction of council funding caps meant that the committee feared they would be thousands short of their desired funding total.

“We managed to secure a bit more from local business sponsorship to make up the shortfall in the funding so there was a lot of kindness and generosity from a number of local employers which is great and much appreciated,” added Mr Lynas.

Wristbands, priced £5, will still be available on the day and can also be bought beforehand online. Details can be found on the Gala Day’s Facebook page.
