A WOMAN got behind the wheel of her car after spending a day drinking in a Dunfermline bar.

Kathlene Earnshaw was spotted swerving across the road at a notorious accident blackspot and she was found to be more than four times over the limit.

Earnshaw, 37, of Burnbrae Terrace, Bonnyrigg, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

She previously admitted that on March 30, in Grange Road, Dunfermline, she drove after consuming excess alcohol. Her reading was 96 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Claire Kennedy said: “At 11.50pm, police officers were on mobile patrol when they observed the accused’s vehicle ahead of them being driven slowly. It was swerving into the opposite carriageway then back again.

“Due to the erratic manner of the driving, they stopped the car. When the accused stepped out of her vehicle, it was obvious she was under the influence,” added the depute.

Earnshaw told the officers: “I’ve had a lot to drink. I’ve been in Lourenzo’s drinking for most of the day.”

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “The decision to drive was a very poor one and she’s well aware of that.

“It had been an impulsive decision and she bitterly regrets what has taken place here.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair fined Earnshaw £600 and banned her from driving for 16 months.
