A PREGNANT woman was repeatedly punched by her husband as she lay in bed after he called her a “fat slag”.

Peter Conroy, who is banned from driving, then drove off and later warned his wife that he would return to petrol-bomb the house.

Conroy, 29, of Loch Street, Townhill, whose record was described as “unenviable to say the least” by his own solicitor, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on June 1, at his home, he assaulted his wife, then pregnant, by repeatedly punching her on the head.

He also admitted that at Loch Street and elsewhere, he drove a car while disqualified.

Conroy further admitted that on June 2, at Loch Street and elsewhere, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by threatening to attend at her grandfather’s address, repeatedly shouted, swore and threatened to petrol-bomb his wife’s home. He committed this offence while on bail.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said the couple had been married for two years and Mrs Conroy was 12-weeks pregnant.

He went on: “On the evening of 1st June, they were together at home having returned from separate nights out with friends in Edinburgh.

“The accused began to berate his wife, calling her a ‘fat slag’. He said he no longer wanted to be with her and she became upset.

“She went to the bedroom and he followed behind her. He then lay down on the bed beside her and continued to call her offensive names.

“The accused then punched his wife on the head three times, leaving her in tears.”

Conroy, who suffers from cerebral palsy, then left the house and was seen driving away, even though he is banned.

Police were contacted and Conroy then phoned his wife and threatened to go to her grandfather’s house causing her alarm, added the depute.

He also threatened to petrol-bomb their house.

Sheriff Robert Dickson told Conroy: “You’ve been given repeated opportunities in the past. Punching a pregnant woman is totally unacceptable, as is driving while disqualified.

“You then threatened to visit an elderly man and also to petrol-bomb your home where your wife was.”

He jailed Conroy for 10 months and banned him from driving for two years.
