A DUNFERMLINE man made the short journey from his accommodation at the James Bank homeless hostel to the Kingsgate Centre to go shoplifting.

Gavin Clark was so drunk he could not remember being in one of the shops he stole from, Dunfermline Sheriff Court was told.

Clark, 38, appeared from custody and admitted that on January 17, he stole perfume from Boots the Chemist and also from Superdrug, both in the Kingsgate.

The items stolen had a total value of £144.

He also failed to turn up at court for a previous court appearance.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said his client had gone for a job interview instead of appearing at court on May 9.

On the thefts, Mr Flett said: “He doesn’t even remember being in Boots. The consumption of alcohol is the explanation for his lack of recollection.

“He has a fairly significant record,” he admitted.

Clark, who is still unemployed, was placed on a community payback order with 150 hours of unpaid work by Sheriff Pino di Emidio.
