POLICE have not been able to identify a young man who was killed in a road crash near Crossgates last night.

The crash happened on the B925 road near to Crossgates, about 11.45pm, and led to the road being closed for six hours as an inevstigation was launched.

Officers issued a statement shortly before 12pm today which read: "At that time, a Renault Traffic MPV was in collision with a male pedestrian, and as a result the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. 

"Emergency services were in attendance and the road was closed for around six hours to complete a full road traffic crash examination. 

"Neither the driver nor any of the passengers on the MPV were injured in this collision."

Sergeant Fraser Cameron, of the Roads Policing Unit at Glenrothes, said: "At this time we have not been able to identify the young man killed in this tragic collision as he was carrying no form of identification with him. 

"We are appealing for anyone who may be able to help us identify him to call police at Glenrothes on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 4806 of 16/6."
