THE children's pool at Carnegie Leisure Centre "should" be open by the end of this month after final checks.

A routine inspection forced the pool to be closed indefinitely in January LAST YEAR.

Various timeframes have been given on when it may open again, with the latest suggesting it may be by the end of June when tots and families can make a splash in the water again – making the closure a year and a half.

Raymond Johnston, property services service manager, said: "We know people are keen to use these facilities and I'd like to apologise for the delay.

"We're waiting on some final works to the pool tank to be completed early next week.

"Following this, Fife Sports Leisure Trust (FSLT) will require to carry out final water quality checks so, subject to these tests being clear, the pool should be reopened by the end of June.

"All temporary hoardings have been removed and the pool is currently protected by a proprietary barrier system installed during the works."

The trust previously said the repairs had taken "longer than expected" after anticipating reopening by August last year.

Following the complete removal of the tiles and floor, the existing concrete slab had been found to have excessive levels of moisture.
