WEST FIFERS are being warned to stay away from a species of jellyfish which have been washed up on the Kingdom’s beaches in recent weeks.
A large number of Lion’s Mane jellyfish have been spotted and the Fife Coast and Countryside Trust has urged visitors to the seaside to be careful.
“Please be aware that the tentacles of this particular species keeps its sting for a long time after the jellyfish has died,” said a spokesperson.
“You should never touch them and always keep children and pets away.”
The Lion’s Mane is the world’s largest species of jellyfish and has a distinctive orange colour.
Its sting can cause blisters, skin irritation and muscular cramp.
