THE search for a missing man from Dunfermline ended ... when he turned up in police custody.

Police Scotland issued a plea via their Facebook account on Monday for help in tracing Daniel Lyons, who they said had last been seen at a house on Iona Road at around 3am on Sunday.

Inspector Ian Poolman said they were “growing increasingly concerned” for his welfare as Lyons had not been in contact with anyone since then.

He had added: “If anyone has spoken to him, or knows where he is, we are urging them to contact us.

“Similarly, if Daniel himself sees this appeal we would ask him to get in touch with ourselves or his friends and family.”

Police later found and arrested the 29-year-old for an offence he committed at 3am on Sunday at Iona Road, the time he went missing.

Lyons was apprehended the same day the police appeal went out and appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

However, police didn’t update his missing status publicly when he was actually in police cells.

After the Press contacted the force yesterday, a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed Lyons had been traced and stressed they were unaware of his whereabouts when the appeal was put out.

“We will have done a missing person’s appeal based around concerns people had at that time,” said the spokesperson. “We would have done all the necessary checks then a decision was made to appeal to the public for help.”

Lyons, 29, of Duncan Crescent, appeared from custody on a charge of causing a disturbance at his former partner’s home at 3am after ignoring a driving ban to get there.

He admitted that on July 8 in Pentland Terrace, Iona Road and streets between, he drove while disqualified and without insurance.

He also admitted that at his former partner’s address in Iona Road he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing, repeatedly banging on a door and kicking it.

Sheriff Gillian Wade told him: “You have a lengthy record.”

She called for reports and Lyons will return to court for sentencing on August 1.
