SCOTTISH Water works costing £3 million will be carried out at the sewage plant outside Inverkeithing.

They've submitted a planning application to Fife Council for improvements at the Dunfermline waste water treatment works, which is on the B981 road to North Queensferry.

It's on top of the £2m they spent last year, just before the Queen officially opened the nearby Queensferry Crossing, to tackle the horrible smell that 'welcomes' visitors to Fife.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: "While there will be a small improvement to odours in the vicinity of the inlet works where the project is taking place, this £3m project is primarily focused on ensuring that we can continue to provide a safe, reliable and effective service now and in the future."

The application to renew the inlet screens will help ensure that the treatment works can continue to operate and screen waste as it comes into the plant.

The company said the investment would improve the efficiency of the site, which serves 82,000 people across Fife.
