A VIOLENT thug, who was in relationships with two West Fife women at the same time and viciously attacked both of them, is behind bars.

Both women had children fathered by Steven Rough, whose double life involved beating up his partners.

One of the assaults took place when one of the victims was pregnant.

On another occasion, he attacked the same woman when she was holding a child, causing their heads to collide and the infant was injured.

Rough carried out assaults in High Valleyfield, Crombie and Townhill and, following a trial at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, a jury found Rough guilty of a catalogue of domestic abuse.

His secrets-and-lies lifestyle led to one of the women believing he was a policeman. She later discovered he was in fact a joiner but had played the part of a policeman as an extra in the TV series ‘River City’.

Rough, 30, of Earl Street, Glasgow, was found guilty of the following charges.

On an occasion between June 1-30, 2016, at an address in High Valleyfield, he assaulted his then partner, then pregnant, by seizing her by the hair, throwing her to the ground, seizing her by the head and repeatedly striking her head against a wall, all to her injury.

On an occasion between July 1-17 last year, at an address in Crombie, he assaulted a then different partner by seizing her by the neck, pinning her to the floor, punching her on the body, seizing her body and dragging her to the floor, then repeatedly striking her head on the floor. He then carried her, seized her by the throat, compressing it and restricting her breathing, all to her injury.

On July 16 last year, at the same address in Crombie, he assaulted his then partner by seizing her by the neck.

On July 17 last year, at an address in Townhill, he assaulted his then different partner by pushing her on the body, causing her to strike a door, whilst she was holding an infant. He struck her on the head, causing her to strike against the head of the child.

He then further struck her on the head, threw a set of keys at her and seized her by the hair when she was still holding the child, all to her injury.

On July 17 last year, at an address in Townhill and elsewhere, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting, swearing and making offensive remarks to his then partner and breaking a glass candle-holder.

Sheriff Simon Collins called for reports and Rough was remanded in custody until sentencing on August 3.
