A HOMELESS youth who was given accommodation at a Dunfermline hostel is now in custody after assaulting a security worker there.

The 17-year-old appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court following the incident.

He admitted that on July 17 at the James Bank Hostel, James Street, he assaulted an employee there by pushing him on the neck.

He also admitted breaching curfew conditions previously imposed in court.

The youth was a resident at the hostel at the time. At around midnight he was seen there under the influence of drink or drugs.

He had been using the back door to get in which was against the rules of the hostel.

When the security officer informed him of this, the youth became aggressive and grabbed him.

He was ejected and when police arrived they detained the youth who was trying to run away.

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and the youth was remanded in custody until sentencing on August 8.
