A DRIVER stopped for speeding in Dunfermline was then found to be almost double the legal alcohol limit.
The incident resulted in a fine and driving ban for Ryan Robinson, 28, of Victoria Terrace, Dunfermline.
He admitted that on July 3 at Bothwell Street, he drove a car at 42mph in a 30mph limit.
He also drove having consumed excess alcohol. His reading was 43 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.
Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia told Dunfermline Sheriff Court: “At around 10.45pm police were carrying out speed checks, saw the accused driving a Suzuki Splash and thought his speed was excessive.”
He was monitored using a hand held device which showed his speed was 42mph.
After being stopped Robinson then failed a breath test.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Mathieson-Dear said his client works as a senior recruitment consultant in Edinburgh.
“He had been at a pool club in Rosyth with a friend and had consumed some beer about two or three hours before driving home,” he went on.
“He foolishly thought he would be under the limit. It was a very serious lapse of judgement which seems to be out of character.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Robinson £560 and banned him from driving for a year
