DUNFERMLINE Fire Station’s annual open day was its ‘best ever’ as more than £5,700 was raised for charities.

Former Primer Minister Gordon Brown was on hand to open proceedings as the fun day got under way.

Rescue and road traffic collision demonstrations were carried out at the Pitreavie station on Saturday August 4 and Bryan Todd, station manager, was delighted with the turnout.

He said: “It was a brilliant day and a fantastic success.

“In excess of £5,700 was raised on the day which will benefit various charities and community groups in the area.

“Our ethos this year was to include as many local groups and partners as we could, and ambulance, police and coastguard services were all in attendance.

“I can’t thank staff and volunteers enough for their efforts on the day.

“We’re looking at starting work on the next one already. It’s a great event for all the family.”

Firefighter and organiser, Julia Mackenzie, said it was their ‘best ever’ fun day, topping last year’s success.

She said: “We would have been extremely happy to raise £3,000, but to raise well over £5,700 is amazing.

“It was a fantastic day and so many charities and groups are going to benefit from it.

“I would just like to say thank you to everyone who came along and donated.”

Dancers from The Dance Studio in Dunfermline performed routines and will be recipients of donations along with: The Firefighter’s Charity, Scottish Burned Children’s Charity, International Fire and Rescue Service, Chernobyl Kids, Royal National Lifeboat Institution and more.
