THE artisan coffee and cafe franchise that's taking over the former McDonald's in Dunfermline want to offer customers an al fresco brew.

Bob & Berts, the Northern Irish chain moving into the High Street premises, have applied for an outdoor seating area and external alterations.

Last month the firm said Dunfermline will be their second store to open in Scotland with 30-40 new jobs expected to be created.

Founder Colin McClean told the Press: “We expect our builders to start work at the site around September and it should take them four or five weeks to complete the refurbishment.

“So, we’ll certainly be looking at an Autumn opening."

If their plans are approved, the seats would be brought in before closing and proposals for outside the cafe also include fencing and planters.

Bob & Berts began in 2013 in Portstewart and they now have 17 stores in Northern Ireland.

The company boast 'proper coffee and great grub', with artisan coffees, a breakfast and lunch menu with a range of burgers, hot dogs and salads on offer.

The firm have also advised Fife Council that their opening hours will be 8.30am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

The former McDonald's restaurant has been vacant and boarded up since the fast food chain closed the High Street outlet in November 2013.
