BEER money has helped to keep a Dunfermline charity youth organisation alive and kicking with a £1,000 grant.

Heart and Sound, now in New Row after a move from the old Sinky's Bar in Pilmuir Street, has been described as "one of the town’s best-kept secrets for young people".

Based above the ESPC shop, their premises include music and games rooms, a pool table, kitchen and toilet facilities and a central layout which looks like a modern, clean café.

Proceeds from the Dunfermline Beer Festival are given to good causes every year, distributed through Dunfermline Roundtable's 'Dragon's Den' event, and Heart and Sound impressed so much in their pitch that they doubled up.

Dominic Collings, of Dunfermline Roundtable, explained: “Heart and Sound came to us with a request for £500 to assist in running costs but their presentation was so good we ended up doubling that amount.

"I’ve visited their building personally and it really is a great space for young people.

"I’m thrilled Roundtable has been able to support this charity. Of course, this wouldn’t have been possible without the money raised at the 2017 Dunfermline Charity Beer Festival.”

Ross Caldwell showed Dominic around the facility and talked about what Heart and Sound is all about.

Ross explained: “We provide peer-to-peer mentoring for young people in Dunfermline in groups from 11-16 years all the way up to the age of 25.

"This is unusual since most organisations stop youth support at the age of 18.”

The £1,000 they received from Dunfermline Roundtable earlier this year enabled Heart and Sound to run several workshops throughout May and July.

Heart and Sound will be starting a recruitment drive for young people with a music conference on September 6 and 8.

The Dunfermline Beer Festival, organised by Dunfermline Roundtable and Dunfermline Rugby Club and backed by the Press, will be held on September 28 and 29. It opens on the Friday from 5pm til 1am, and Saturday from noon to 4pm and 7pm to 1am.

Tickets are available from Ticketweb, Grill 48, Little Shop of Heroes and from the rugby club at McKane Park; priced £8.
