BANDS from Dunfermline’s music scene played at Fire Station Creative this morning (Friday) as the brochure for Outwith Festival was launched.

The five-day event starts on September 5 with more than 120 performances at 23 venues across the town centre.

More than 60 bands will take to eight stages on Saturday 8, as the talent on the town’s doorstep is showcased.

Chris Foote, events manager at Dunfermline Delivers, is delighted with the packed line-up of events.

He said: “It’s always amazing to see the brochure come to life. We’re really proud of everything that we’ve got on offer this year.

“It’s a really strong programme and a lot of work has gone into it.

“We know there will be music lovers coming from across all of Scotland to see the names we have this year.

“There should be something for everyone whether you’re old or young, hip or unhip.

“This is a festival that celebrates all of the culture that Dunfermline has to offer. What’s amazing is that when you come to the festival, you see the whole town come to life.

“Dunfermline is such an amazing place to host a festival. You can spend a day here or the weekend and just experience Dunfermline at its liveliest and it its purest.

“There’s so much depth of talent in the area and it’s a real showcase of that.”

Jonny Watt, lead singer of Foreignfox, performed three songs at Fire Station Creative as business partners from across the town came together for the launch.

The festival has been organised by Dunfermline Delivers along with Fire Station Creative, Avocado Sweet and Write Rammy.

David Stevens and Grant Allan, of Dunfermline Press Live Music Award Winners, Oskar Braves, also performed at the contemporary arts hub.

Grant helped shaped the live music on offer during Outwith, and he insists this is a festival not to be missed.

He said: “Scotland’s best talents are coming here as well as all of the homegrown talent.

“The local scene is amazing. We could’ve filled a festival just with local bands as there’s so many right now. It’s the strongest scene we’ve had in years and that’s great for Dunfermline.

“It’s an exciting time for everyone.

“It’s been a lot of hard work to organise, especially when you’re targeting bands from the likes of Glasgow and London who have booking agents. It’s not a case of just messaging them on Facebook.

“I’m delighted with who we’ve got coming here and I hope it’s going to pay off.

“A lot of the venues are close to each other, so you can walk from each one pretty quickly and not have to trek a mile.

“If this festival was being held in Glasgow with the same amount of people, you’d be paying about £40 a ticket.

"Outwith’s music is on offer for free. There’s nothing else like this.”
