A YOUNG mum who went for a night out with a friend at a Dunfermline nightclub ended up with a conviction for drug-dealing.

Jemma Lessels bought an ecstasy tablet and gave half of it to a female friend, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard.

Lessels, 19, of Beatty Place, Dunfermline, admitted that on July 2, 2017, at Lourenzo’s, St Margaret Street, she was concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf told the court that at 1.30am, the accused and her friend had been in the toilets at the nightclub and they each took half an ecstasy tablet.

At 2.05am, Lessels was detained for the supply of drugs.

The accused told police she took half an ecstasy tablet along with her friend, adding: “I never forced it down her throat.”

Defence solicitor Barbara Collie said: “She was asked by her friend to purchase an ecstasy tablet and give her half of it.”

Sheriff Allison McKay told the solicitor: “I accept it’s at the bottom end of the scale and that people of her age may not realise when they cross the line and become involved in the supply of class A drugs.”

She told Lessels: “I know you feel it’s not fair that you’re in the dock today. However, this offence would have resulted in a prison sentence in previous years.

“You and your friends have no idea what you are purchasing, what you are getting.”

The court heard Lessels has a two-year-old child.

The sheriff imposed a restriction of liberty order for 22 weeks.
