ROSYTH parents have lost their fight to continue sending their children to Dunfermline High after councillors approved proposals to re-zone secondary school catchment areas.

The shake up will mean children from Kings Road and Camdean Primaries will now go to Inverkeithing High despite concerns raised that they will not be able to walk there safely and that the decision would affect educational attainment.

Given special permission to speak at the meeting, local councillors Sam Steele and Andrew Veruccia outlined concerns from parents and urged members of Fife Council's Education and Children's Services Committee to reject the plans.

They said the strength of feeling was reflected by a petition organised by parents of Kings Road and Camdean Primaries which attracted around 1000 signatures in just a week.

However councillors unanimously approved the plans with one amendment brought forward from Councillor Helen Law to review the catchment areas of primary schools in the Dunfermline North ward as early as possible.

As a result of the decision, from August 2019, addresses in the Camdean and Kings Road primary schools catchment will be re-zoned from Dunfermline High to Inverkeithing while addresses within the Torryburn Primary and Tulliallan Primary zones will go to Queen Anne High instead of Inverkeithing High.

Addresses in the Masterton and Limekilns Primary catchments are to be re-zoned from Woodmill to Dunfermline High while the addresses currently in the Woodmill High School catchments of Canmore, Pitreavie and Commercial primaries will change to Dunfermline High.

Commercial Primary School addresses currently within the Queen Anne High School catchment will also change to Dunfermline High School.
