TRIBUTES have poured in for a kind-hearted former St Columba’s pupil who died in his sleep last Friday.

Gregor Scott, 18, who began his studies in hospitality at Perth College recently was found dead in his room by his flat mates.

The prefect pupil, who finished school in the summer, has been described as “a kind and loving young man who cared passionately for his family and friends”.

His sudden death prompted a close friend to set up a GoFundMe page in his memory which has already raised £3,230 at the time of going to print.

Dozens of youngsters have donated to help aid the cost of his funeral and have left messages of love for Gregor who impacted so many people’s lives.

Mum Catriona, deputy head at Glenrothes High School, told the Press: “I received a call at work from a paramedic to say that he passed away and when we got to Perth we had to wait for the police to carry out their checks as it was a sudden death.

“While we sat with the student warden he told us that he had performed CPR on Gregor but it had made no difference.

“After a bit we got to see him and tell him how much we loved him and came home to tell his brother and sisters.

“Mercifully, we have never had to deal with death in the family, everyone has always lived to an old age, that’s what is so shocking.

“When someone goes to bed at the age of 18 you just expect them to get up the next morning. He was just so young.”

Gregor’s last message was a text to his dad about his work shifts at five to one in the morning. His flat mates then found him dead the next day when they realised he hadn’t woken up.

The student flat has now been emptied and his mates have been sent home while they come to terms with the tragedy.

Catriona said: “He had been living in halls since September and had loved his time there.

“He had settled very quickly and gelled so well with his flat mates."

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal and the family is waiting for the outcome of a post mortem before they can arrange a funeral for Gregor.

The teen, who had a keen passion for rugby, had also been working for M&S both in Dunfermline and Perth while he did his studies.

“He worked with his dad, who is a manager at M&S, but his big passion was hospitality,” Catriona added.

“He could have been the next Gordon Ramsay! He was so excited to get his chef whites with his name embroidered for his course.

“He made us laugh because most students are eating beans on toast but everyone was coming around to his for minute steak!

“He was just about to start training for his university rugby team too.

“We know how special he was but just hearing the same comments from others has just touched our hearts.”

The family have decided that everyone will be asked to wear green at Gregor’s funeral which will be a celebration of his life.

Catriona said: “He had a big personality and there was presence about him being 6ft 4.

“It was hard to see him not so full of life last time we saw him.

“We are truly devastated but we are determined to keep his memory alive. He hated seeing anyone upset and was there for everyone.

“He just had such a warm nature and a sunny disposition.

“We are overwhelmed by messages of support from friends, family, teachers, church, the community, and people we don’t even know.

“You don’t know how much that has helped us through this difficult time.

“We had no idea a fundraising page had been set up but it’s an incredibly kind gesture from Gregor’s friend, Emma Miller, and we’ve been able to see how loved he was.”

Headteacher Kevin O’ Connor said: “St Columba’s was deeply saddened to hear the news that Gregor Scott, our former pupil, had died suddenly.

“Gregor was an outstanding pupil; a kind and loving young man who cared passionately for his family, friends and staff.

“As a senior pupil last year, he was the perfect role model for everyone and embodied the values of the school. Gregor had a passion for health and food technology throughout his time in school, volunteering in numerous junior classes and community events.

“We were, therefore, especially proud of his achievement in pursuing his passion further at the University of Highlands and the Islands (Perth College campus). The thoughts and prayers of everyone in St Columba’s High School is thinking of Gregor’s family at this difficult time.”
