AN HISTORIC former school building in Dunfermline is now up for sale 163 years to the day since it opened for the first time.

Free Abbey Church built Wilson's Institution on 85 New Row in 1857 as a free school.

The school was finished and opened on May 17 a year later for the free education of children in the town and suburbs of Dunfermline, a preference being given to those of the name of Wilson, and to children whose parents were members of the Free Abbey Church.

It is now being sold as a two-bedroom detached bungalow or two apartments (subject to planning) or alternatively being kept in use as a business premises.

It is being marketed by Morgans, and is available for offers over £155,000.

In a description of the property, the estate agents said: "We are delighted to be marketing MVT House in the New Row, a B-listed building with excellent potential to convert to a single storey home or two apartments (subject to planning), or indeed business premises which it is currently used for by the existing owner.
