THE Dunfermline Men's Shed has partnered with the Friends of Pittencrieff Park to create bespoke hedgehog houses.
In February, Rachel Brown from the Friends of Pittencrieff Park approached the Men's Shed, which opperates out of the Steading in the Glen and asked if they could help with an upcoming project.
Rachel explained that, since January, the Friends had been running a series of workshops, partly funded by a grant from Climate Action Fife.
They were planning a workshop for July on wildlife and were hoping to include some hedgehog houses for study.
Rather than buy them, she proposed that the Men's Shed make them in exchange for the funds for the wood.
However, when the Men's Shed realised that the cost of the box's would have been over the £100 mark they decided to find another solution.
Alistair Craig from the Shed said: "We didn't want to present the Friends with a bill that big, so we decided to source the materials from bits and pieces out of our own sheds, from off-cuts in the Shed's stores and from stuff that had been donated.
"We soon assembled enough to make it all possible.
"It was a particularly appropriate job for the Shed because our more experienced members were involved in cutting the timbers to size while less experienced members helped with the assembly of the houses.
"Everybody worked together. It was good to help another group in the Glen and, in the event, it cost the Friends nothing."
To thank them for their hard work, The Friends of Pittencrieff Park kindly gifted a donation to the Men's Shed.
Rachel added: "Those guys have done a brilliant job. We're really very grateful."
