A woman was found slumped over the steering wheel of her car in a Tesco car park and then at a school in separate incidents in Dunfermline.

Drug user Lauren Lewis, 42, of Broomhead Drive, Dunfermline, has now been banned from the roads for three years.

She appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court after admitting three offences, all involving drugs.

On April 27, at the Tesco car park, Winterthur Lane, Dunfermline, she was in charge of a car when unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

On May 31, at Dunfermline police station, she was in possession of cocaine.

And on June 19, at Queen Anne High School, Dunfermline, she drove a car when unfit through drink or drugs. She was also in possession of cocaine.

Depute fiscal Charlotte Allan said at 11.40pm Lewis was found slumped over the steering wheel of her car at Tesco.

She appeared to be under the influence of drugs as officers woke her up and helped her out of the vehicle.

“She was drifting in and out of consciousness and struggling to keep her eyes open,” added the depute.

The second offence involved Lewis being detained by police who had seen her acting suspiciously in Broomhead Drive, leaning into a vehicle. She was taken to the police station to be searched and a bag of cocaine was found in her sock.

Then on June 19, at 8am, police received a call from a member of the public about a car parked in Queen Anne High School car park.

Lewis was slumped over the wheel with the engine running and the car park was described as being busy at the time.

When she saw the police, Lewis tried to speed away but the officers blocked the exit route.

“Her eyes were glazed and her speech slurred,” said the depute.

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said her client had mental health difficulties and was also taking heroin and crack cocaine at the time of the offences.

Sheriff John MacRitchie deferred full sentencing until June 26, but imposed a three-year driving ban to take immediate effect.
