West Fife's Gladiators contender was just inches away from claiming a place in the grand final of the hit BBC game show.

Kerry Wilson, 34, from Oakley, battled her way through her heat and quarter final to claim a place in the last four of the competition.

Her semi-final was shown on BBC TV on Saturday night, and throughout the competition, Kerry looked set to claim a place in the final.

However, the last obstacle - the travellator - in the last event - The Eliminator - proved to be too much, and she was eventually overtaken and beaten to the finishing line by her rival, personal trainer Marie-Louise.

Dog walker Kerry, clearly disappointed to have missed out after coming so close, remained smiling at the end though, and applauded her opponent as she completed the gruelling course ahead of her.

Speaking to host Bradley Walsh at the end, Kerry said: "That travellator had me. I had nothing left in my legs."

She'd gone into the final event with a nine-second advantage over Marie-Louise, and when told by Bradley that she'd actually stretched her lead at one point, Kerry responded: "I just went a bit too hard, I should have kept some in the tank."

In the earlier challenges, Kerry stood up to the Gladiators, enabling her to build up an 18-point lead over Marie-Louise, which was converted into her nine-second head start in the Eliminator.

She matched Gladiator Fire in Duel, being the only contender to remain on the podium; she was first up The Wall, despite losing a shoe to chasing Gladiator Diamond; she knocked Gladiator Sabre off the platform in The Edge to take full points; she matched Marie-Louise in Powerball; and she produced one of the fastest-ever times in Gauntlet.

In the Eliminator - a race round an obstacle course involving the two contenders - Kerry led all the way until the travellator right at the end. She made a lung-bursting run to try to get to the top and was inches away from pulling herself on to the platform which would have secured victory.

But she slipped back down, and after a second failed attempt, Marie-Louise sprinted past, made it to the top in her first attempt and clinched her place in the final.
