INVERKEITHING residents are being invited to have their say on future development plans for the town.

Work is underway to design a local place plan which asks the public to give their views on what they think should be done with specific sites with the aim they can be incorporated into the new Fife-wide Local Development Plan.

An online survey has been produced asking community members what they want to happen with the paper mill, high school, old primary school, Roods and Rosyth Dockyard Branch Line areas.

A further document is also looking at developing a housing policy and looking at Preston Hill Quarry.

Local councillor David Barratt explained: "Essentially it is to give the community a voice in what sites would be acceptable for development and which would not.

"I have had about 70 responses so far setting out what people think about the different parts of Inverkeithing and what would be acceptable and what would not be.

"In recent months and years, particularly around the development of Prestonhill Quarry, there has been local discussion and local people stating what their views are and what should be developed.

"It will be a missed opportunity if we let it go and it would capture the views. Too often the community are only consulted when planning applications are made."

The online survey results will be collated by the end of this month before a summary paper will be drawn up setting out the results.

"That will be used for an initial local places plan for Inverkeithing," added Cllr Barratt. "Then that will go out for consultation to see if people are happy with it. If they are, it will be formally adopted."

A drop-in consultation session is also planned in the coming weeks to allow people without online access to the survey to give their views.

The surveys can be accessed through Cllr Barratt's Facebook page or online here.
