Tales of murder and mystery have made Monday mornings unmissable for a group of local library users in Rosyth.

A shared love of whodunnits has drawn a crowd of crime fiction fans to a newly formed group.

A lone poster pinned to the library’s returns desk was all it took to entice the thriller-seekers to join the Monday Morning Murder Club.

And, in a plot twist that staff never saw coming, the crime fiction fans turned up in such big numbers to the first meeting this week that they had to borrow chairs from the community centre next door.

Library assistant Nicola Braid said: "After the social isolation of Covid times, we were aware of the need for an informal group where like-minded people could get together over a cup of tea and meet new friends.

“It's not a book group as such, but every two weeks we will discuss a murder-based theme. Variety is a key element – we cover TV, films, news and, of course, books.”

The club is run by Nicola and fellow library assistant Teresa Robinson, who got kitted out in forensic suits for the first meeting on Monday.

The idea was hatched when they noticed that most of their regular borrowers read murder mysteries.

Everyone who attended had fascinating stories to share, and all are eagerly anticipating the next session which will focus on murders involving famous people.

Teresa said: “Our oldest member – who’s 90 years old – left the meeting with a spring in her step, saying that she was away to look up more murders.

“The enthusiasm is infectious. We're hoping to invite some guest speakers as the group evolves and possibly 'solve' a murder or two as well.”

The next meeting of the Monday Morning Murder Club is scheduled for April 22.
