PLANS have been revealed which would "breathe a new lease of life" into Fife Council's former headquarters in Dunfermline.

Kingdom Housing Association want to create 32 affordable flats in New City House which was vacated by the local authority earlier this year.

An application to change the use of the offices has now been lodged which would see the formation of the affordable homes, alterations to install replacement doors, windows and solar panels.

Work would also include a replacement roof, erection of bin storage, landscaping works and installation of electric vehicle charging upstands.

The site was the council's flagship headquarters in West Fife and the base for up to 450 members of staff but it was deemed surplus to requirements last year.

Purpose-built for the council at a cost of just under £2 million, it opened in 2005 but with more flexible working patterns it was part of the estate they've labelled as "significantly underutilised".

A spokesperson for Kingdom told the Press: "If successful, the planning application for New City House will breathe a new lease of life into this former office building delivering 32 high-quality homes in the centre of Dunfermline.

"As a former office, New City House has most recently been underutilised and this planned development will provide much-needed affordable homes in the area.

"Having access to homes in the city centre will allow this area to develop as a small housing community well connected to local amenities."
