A RAPIST from Dunfermline who subjected a woman to sexual abuse and violence that left her a changed person has been jailed for five and a half years.

Callum Fleming, formerly of Abbey View, attacked the victim when he was aged 21.

A judge told Fleming, now 24, that the woman has become isolated and lost her confidence following the crimes he committed three years ago.

Lord Beckett said at the High Court in Edinburgh: "She is no longer the person she was."

Fleming denied a series of charges during an earlier trial but was found guilty of raping, sexually assaulting and assaulting the woman on August 27 or 28 in 2021.

During the attack he grabbed his victim by the head and body and restrained her.

He also sexually assaulted the woman when she was asleep and penetrated her and continued to abuse her after she awoke.

Fleming throttled the woman by compressing her throat, restricting her breathing.

Defence solicitor advocate Peter Robertson told the court: "He is under no illusion that he faces a significant custodial sentence today given the nature of the offences."

He said Fleming had a difficult childhood and asked the court to take account of his age in sentencing.

Lord Beckett told Fleming: "You clearly had a difficult upbringing. It is to your credit that at times you have found employment."

He said that given his age now and at the time the crimes were committed the sentence he imposed would be shorter than it would have otherwise been.

The judge also ordered that Fleming should be under supervision in the community for a further two and a half year period.

During that time he will be on licence and can be returned to prison if he breaches the terms of it.

Fleming was told that he will be on the sex offenders' register indefinitely following the sentencing.
