POLICE have submitted a report to the procurator fiscal following their investigation into the drowning of twin boys in Dalgety Bay.

Two-year-old brothers Rhys and Shaun Scott died after falling into a fish tank at their home in Breakers Way on Saturday morning.

The boys were treated by police officers and paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, where they sadly died.

Police have been carrying out enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the Health and Safety Executive were called in to establish whether they had a role to play in the investigation.

The case is now under the direction of the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (SFIU) and a Crown Office spokesperson said: “These tragic deaths are the subject of investigation and a report to the procurator fiscal.

“It would be inappropriate to say anything more at such an early stage of the investigation.”

The family will be kept updated in relation to any developments.

Parents Sarah Aitken and Mervyn Scott spoke of their "little soldiers who were full of love, happiness, fun and cheek".

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, they said: “We would like to thank everyone for their support at this unfortunate and difficult time. "We have special thanks to all the medical staff, family, friends, neighbours and the police for their efforts, hard work and time spent helping and trying to revive our miracle babies.

“Both boys were long-awaited little soldiers who were full of love, happiness, fun and cheek.

"Individually and together they have touched the lives of everyone they met.

“We, along with our family and friends, are still in shock and devastated at such a tragic loss from such a ‘freak’ accident. They have been taken from us far too early and will be forever missed and loved.

“We wish to be left alone and be given the privacy needed to grieve.”
