A DRUNK Hillend man “ruined” his stepdaughter’s wedding reception when he headbutted his own wife in the face – because he had wanted to leave and she hadn’t.

Even after the assault, Craig Davidson’s wife had to step in on his behalf to stop other guests from dishing out physical retribution after he became aggressive.

Davidson, 45, admitted to charges that on October 30 at Ballingry Lodge, Lochgelly, he assaulted his wife and headbutted her on the face to her injury; and behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, shouted, swore and threatened violence.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard last Wednesday that Davidson, of 10A Main Street, had similar previous convictions.

Fiscal depute Gary McMullan said Davidson had been at the wedding and reception at Ballingry Lodge with his wife and “it became apparent to witnesses there that he appeared to be getting angry towards his wife”.

He told the court: “Around 11.45pm, his wife spoke to him about shouting at their son and asked him to stop as she would deal with him thereafter.

“At this point, he headbutted her to her face. This was seen by witnesses and they went to her aid. The accused was taken out of the reception hall,

“He became aggressive, shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence towards those who were trying to get him away from the situation they had observed with his wife.”

Police were contacted and Davidson was detained around 12.40am. He was taken to A&E as it appeared he had a facial injury. He was later arrested at 6.30pm.

His wife suffered minor grazes to her forehead as a result of the headbutt.
Solicitor Ian Beatson said Davidson had consumed alcohol and was “seriously inebriated” due to mixing his drinks.

He continued: “He had wanted to leave and she had not and he reacted in a fairly deplorable manner. He feels ashamed of his conduct because he ruined the family wedding by his conduct.

“Once other guests saw how he was acting, they became involved. He became aggressive towards them. They intervened on a physical level and caused him to suffer black eyes, a cut to his mouth and head and a broken nose.

“His wife intervened on his behalf to stop any further retribution meted out to him.

“He’s embarrassed and ashamed of his actions and was in a state of disbelief over his reaction.”

Fining Davidson £700, Sheriff Eric Brown lambasted: “You’ve reconciled with your wife but clearly this is not the way to behave with your wife or family.”
