THE future of Dalgety Bay and Hillend Gala could be at stake after an appeal for help failed to attract any volunteers.

In January, the Press reported that the gala committee, which only has a core team of five, desperately needed more bodies to help organise the event.

Since our article, the gala committee been contacted with offers to help on the day but nobody has volunteered to serve on the committee.

However, gala vice-chair Cat Moyes is staying positive. She said: “The Press article raised the profile of the gala and let people know it was still happening and I think nearer the time we will get more volunteers.

“We’re getting on with it but we still need people and we’re still raising funds so there are finances for next year.

“The people who are doing it are putting in a hell of a lot of effort to make it happen.

“Nobody turned up to meetings but we’re getting the odd offer of help. If anybody wants to be involved or help in the lead-up to the gala, that would be fantastic.

“There’s still time to do stuff if somebody comes forward.”

The committee was forced to call off 2015’s gala due to lack of funds and there are now “major concerns” about the gala continuing if nobody steps up.

Cat added: “We need new blood, new people, new ideas and enthusiasm, somebody to shake it up a bit and make it something different.

“The irony is that those of us who are doing it have children who are older. It’s more for the community that we’re doing it than specifically for our kids.

“We really wanted it to happen this year after being forced to call last year’s gala off. There were two wee girls who went and did a triathlon to raise funds and that was one of the things that kept us motivated this year – we felt we had to make it happen for their spirit and support.”

Cat hinted that this year’s Rio-themed gala, on June 4, had “some amazing surprises in store”, including “visitors from the sky”.

She smiled: “This year’s gala is going to be awesome. We’re having lots more stuff.

“We’re having a climbing wall, quad bikes, trampolines – we’ve really gone to town.”

Anyone interested in having a community stall at the gala has until April 14 to confirm participation. Stalls cost £15.

The next gala fund-raiser is a quiz night at 7.30pm on April 29 at Louie Brown’s. Tickets are £5 per person.

There will also a Mardi Gras evening on June 3 at 6pm in the marquee at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre. Tickets are available through the gala’s Facebook page and website.

The next gala meeting will be on April 6. For details, call Cat on 01383 829576 or email catmoyes@gmail.com, find them on Facebook, or log on to dalgetybayandhillendgala.co.uk.
