A DALGETY Bay firm that is a "world leader" in the laser industry is ready to grow and create new jobs after receiving £2million.

PowerPhotonic, a company that specialises in high value optics, aim to increase their workforce and recently secured the cash from Archangels and Scottish Investment Bank.

They're now ready to upscale their business development and manufacturing capacity and gave a tour of their St David's Drive site to Fife Council's deputy leader, Lesley Laird.

Dr Roy McBride, chief executive of the firm, said: "PowerPhotonic has been based in Dalgety Bay for eight years, and in that time has grown from a technology-based startup to a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced micro-optics for the laser industry.

"Fife has an excellent track record in growing world-class photonics businesses, and has proven to be a great location for PowerPhotonic to establish itself on the global stage.

"We look forward to continued international growth, driven from our base in Dalgety Bay.“

PowerPhotonic, who also have a base in California, manufacture and supply high-value optics that manipulate the light from lasers for a wide variety of business sectors.

Cllr Laird commended the company on their recent successes after learning about the specialised manufacturing process and their business development plans.

She said: "I am thrilled to be here to show my support for PowerPhotonic and congratulate them on their recent investment.

"The opportunity to visit allows me to see, first-hand, the hard work and dedication that goes into growing Fife’s economy.

"It’s important for us to understand the challenges faced by local companies as well as recognise success and development in the local area.

"Building relationships with businesses is just one of a number of ways we can demonstrate our commitment to make Fife the best place to do business."
