TOP veggie grower Jim Thomson has secured a legendary 15 awards after scooping another gold award in the Beautiful Fife Gardens 2016 awards.

That takes his total to 26 golds for the west of Fife and 15 times for the whole of Fife for his top crop.

Jim laughed: "I don't think anyone can have beaten my 26-year record when you have been gardening for as long as me!"

The 90-year-old beat competitors with his famous veggies that include onions, leeks, sweet peas, carrots, beetroot, cabbages – and a selection of flowers too.

The Dalgety Bay resident said he owes his success to "a lot of hard work".

He said: "I am in the gardens most days unless it is raining!"

Jim – a retired civil servant – served with the 2nd Battalion The Cameron Highlanders in Italy during World War Two.

He has always had a love of gardening, inherited from his grandfather and father, but since retirement, has had more time to devote to it.

On September 3 he also won first prize in the Dalgety Bay Horticultural Society Annual Show for his onions, leeks, and sweet pea flowers.
