Dalgety Bay Primary celebrated the works of Roald Dahl yesterday with fancy dress and a sponsored reading challenge.

Children dressed as famous characters from the authors collection of titles, who would have been 100 years old.

Laura Spence, headteacher, said: "There was a real buzz in the school, the children were very engaged in all the literacy activities throughout the day.

"It was great to see both parents and children sharing the joy of reading together - parents were impressed with just how much their children enjoyed it."

Many schools celebrated Roald Dahl day across the country but Dalgety Bay Primary marked the occasion with a whole week of reading initiatives.

The school also fundraised for a new library through the sponsored reading challenge, a competition that will give one lucky kid at the primary school the chance to win a Kindle.

Laura Spence said: "We raised over £1000 for the new library project that started in the summer.

"We are hoping to create a very special space where the children feel at ease with reading in a familiar environment.
