NO CRIMINAL proceedings will be brought after the tragic deaths of Dalgety Bay twins Rhys and Shaun Scott last year.

The toddlers died after falling into a fish tank at their Breakers Way home last March.

After being treated by police officers and paramedics at the scene, the two-year-old brothers were rushed to Victoria Hospital where they died.

A Crown Office spokesman confirmed this week that Crown Counsel had concluded there should be no criminal proceedings.

“After carefully considering the reports that were submitted to the procurator fiscal, Crown Counsel have also decided that there should be no Fatal Accident Inquiry as the reasons for the tragedy were established during the course of the investigation," said the spokesperson.

“That investigation was carried out by Police Scotland, the Health and Safety Executive and Fife Council with oversight from the specialist Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit of the Crown Office.

“The family of Rhys and Shaun have been informed of Crown Counsel’s instructions.”

After the tragedy, parents Sarah Aitken and Mervyn Scott spoke of their "little soldiers who were full of love, happiness, fun and cheek".

In a statement issued through Police Scotland at the time, they said they were shocked and devastated at such a tragic loss from such a "freak" accident.

They added: "Individually and together they have touched the lives of everyone they met. They have been taken from us far too early and will be forever missed and loved."
