A MASSIVE pothole has put a spoke in the wheels of Dalgety Bay's popular pushkart derby tomorrow (Saturday).

The race has now gone to pot after a lorry tore a huge pothole on the circuit's home straight.

Yesterday, the Press brought you the preview of the Pushkart Derby (PKD) festival, but the race has now been postponed due to safety fears.

However, the rest of the festival, which includes a motorcycle parade, day-long concert headlined by Big Country, food and family market, will go ahead as planned.

The pothole is located at the bend coming down to the final straight, and there were fears karts would tip over if they hit it.

Organiser Mark Bennett (pictured) told the Press, "It looks like a lorry trailer leg was left down and it caught a pothole and ripped it up.

"We spotted the pothole on Friday but it's now three times as big.

"It's right on the bend when they come down into the home straight, and if they hit the pothole, due to the camber, they would tip over.

"The children build the karts to have fun and enjoy themselves. What we don't want is for them to come here and fly off the road and end up in the Victoria Hospital.

"It's not Fife Council's fault at all. They have always been brilliant to us every single year and patch up all the potholes but they wouldn't have been able to do it in time, especially with the inclement weather, so we decided to postpone the race." Mark said the derby will go now ahead in September, adding, "Someone has to take the crown, they can't hold on to it for two years or by default!" The day will now kick off with a motorcycle parade from Dalgety Bay train station at 10am into the town, ending at St David's business park where the race would have been held.

There will be more than 100 big bikes taking part, including 80 Harley-Davidsons.

The festival opens at 10am and the first acts will be on stage from 11am, with Big Country set to perform at 7pm.
