WEST Fifers got in the saddle and into gear at the second Dalgety Bay Bike Festival on Saturday.

The free outdoor event, organised by Cycling Dalgety Bay, was held at the town’s sailing club and offered a variety of rides and activities for all ages and abilities.

Visitors enjoyed group-led family and Ladies Only rides, an adventure timber trail, mountain biking in the woods at Braefoot Brae, as well as stalls, a barbecue and home baking.

Sandy Wallace Cycles, MTBflo, Cyclestart Fife, Sustrans and Talking Tandems, the West Fife cycling club for the blind and visually impaired, also attended.

Unfortunately, Police Scotland were unable to attend as planned, due to other commitments, but provided bike security marking items for the organisers to use.

Visitors could also take on a turbo trainer challenge and there were Nintendo Wii games for the younger ones.

Organising committee chair Neil Drummond said, “The weather was fine. W|e got a wee shower around lunchtime but it was good weather the rest of the day.

“There was a good turnout – 75 kids signed up for the timber trail and there were around 20 parents and children on the family ride.

“The Ladies Only ride was well-attended as well, a big increase on last year, and the mountain biking was really good, with a few dads going along.

“Fife Cycling came through from Kirkcaldy and went out on a road ride for those who are a bit more serious about their cycling.

“Hopefully we catered for as many cyclists as possible. Our Facebook page has had another 30-40 likes since the festival, and we’ve had really good feedback.

“We sold about 100 burgers, which will help provide financial backing for next year.

“Special thanks to everybody who attended, all the stallholders and the team who helped to organise it.”
