Annmarie McKay and Sue Gunn were given the Recognition of Care and Kindness (Rock) awards for their compassion and level of attention they give to the people they look after at Henderson House Care Home.

What makes the recognition even more special is that Annmarie, the activities coordinator, and Sue, a care staff member, were nominated by family members who noticed how much they went above and beyond in their care.

Margaret Johnston, manager of Henderson House, said she was “very proud” of the hard work being achieved by her staff.

“They were nominated by families for going the extra mile,” she explained. “Nothing is too much for them.

“We got some nice letters from the family saying that the level of care was excellent and the staff were willing to help at any time.

“It’s something we are trying to do, to promote the fact that staff are being recognised for their hard work, especially when it comes to excellence of care. The family feels like it instils confidence in them.

“Sue is our dementia ambassador and she has developed that unit very well. It’s very successful and the family sees the difference and sees the quality of work that the staff are putting in.” Margaret also believes that Annmarie and Sue’s awards goes to show how important it is to Henderson House to make sure the staff are the best they can be.

“The reputation of the house has taken a good turn,” she said. “We want to continue to build on the good training of the staff and keep the confidence of the public.”
