DOUBLE yellow lines are set to go in on roads around the Amazon warehouse in Dunfermline in an attempt to curb inconsiderate parking.

Councillors have given the go-ahead to the restrictions along Amazon Way and Sandpiper Drive after motorists raised safety concerns.

Amazon’s Dunfermline warehouse is the largest in the UK, and an increase in traffic over the Christmas period had resulted in HGVs parking on Sandpiper Drive.

A report by Scott Blyth, Fife Council technician engineer, stated, “This is the main returns depot for the UK and has a large number of HGVs accessing the site every day.

“During the Christmas period, the increase in HGV traffic to the depot resulted in a number of HGVs parking on Sandpiper Drive.

“This caused concern for motorists in the area with regards to safety and, at times, traffic flow.

“Meetings have taken place with Amazon, which included discussions relating to parking of HGVs on public roads. Amazon supports the proposals.” In addition to HGV parking, selfish drivers have also been driving over grass verges to park on the footways along Sandpiper Drive, obstructing the footway and damaging the verges.

Mr Blyth continued, “The restrictions will take the form of double yellow lines, which restrict parking to the highway boundary.

“Therefore, we can also prevent vehicles parking on footways along the route and undertake enforcement to maintain safe access.

“Parking for private vehicles will be available, along with the HGVs, in the north section of Sandpiper Drive.” A consultation on the plans is under way until 24th July, with full details available at Fife House and online at www.fifedirect.org.uk/notices.
