TEENS in Duloch could see £20,000 going towards a good Saturday night out thanks to plans to offer sporty activities at the weekends.

A proposal is in the works for the Duloch Youth Project, a programme which would give young people the chance to take part in healthy, productive and fun activities in their spare time.

The idea for the scheme follows on from the success of the Carnegie Leisure Centre’s Fridayouth project, which saw teens get the opportunity to take part in sports like football, basketball, hockey, table tennis and badminton as well as other activities such as supervised climbing, fitness classes and gym classes.

The new project would be held on Saturday evenings at the Duloch Leisure Centre and could play a part in reducing anti-social behaviour in the area as well as helping the youngsters to stay fit and healthy.

James Dunbar, area leisure manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust said, “Following on from the success of Fridayouth – a programmes aimed at 12 to 17-year-olds at Carnegie Leisure Centre which delivers a range of sports activities on Friday evenings – the trust in partnership with Fife Council is looking to develop a similar offering for Duloch Leisure Centre.

"The trust is currently working with partners such as Fife Council and Police Scotland to put together a proposal which would deliver supervised, affordable activities to young people in the local area to encourage an interest in physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

“Further information will be announced once project details have been agreed.”
